In the world of athletes, there are many outstanding participants who impress or managed to impress throughout their career. These impressive persons vary from the sport to their roots and ancestry. From the many that are there, my main focus is athletes of the Latin descent. Most importantly, the top 5 Latin American athletes considered the best of all time. Opinions may differ on who are they are but without following any particular order, here are the athletes:

Pedro Martinez

Pedro nicknamed ‘Big’, was a baseball player and considered one of the best pitchers ever in the MLB. His strength and control when pitching the ball made him win a lot of games and sent fans cheering and chanting his name. He delivered a total of 3154 strikeouts and won 219 games. His average regarding how effectiveness and efficiency were 2.93 and in the end he secured 3 Cy Young awards. Apart from that, he helped the Red Sox emerge on top in the 2004 World Series and to top it all became the second best baseball player, to be enlisted into the Hall of Fame, Cooperstown.

Roberto Clemente

Originally from Puerto Rico, Roberto was simply exceptional. This player developed his career in the Major League Baseball. He was the first Latin star in this league. He went on to win four batting crowns and was selected to play in 15 editions of the All-Star Game not to mention 12 Golden Gloves. He also participated in many charity events and was on his way to such an event when his unfortunate death occurred. The MLB established an annual award to praise the philanthropic work done by baseball players as a tribute to Roberto Clemente.

Diego Armando Maradona

Diego was a soccer player who played with his left foot and scored numerous goals. He became an idol during the quarterfinals of the 1986 Mexico Cup where he delivered a magnificent gallop from the centre of the field. He went on to lead the team that brought the 1986 world title in 1986 and became the runners up in 1990. Furthermore, the goals he delivered helped his team win 2 Italian Leagues.

Edson Arantes Dos Nascimento

He is popularly known as Pele. His specialty was in the soccer field where he was named the best soccer player of the century by FIFA. He also holds the title of the finest athlete of the 20th century by the International Olympic Committee. Pele is from Brazil and during his career he scored 1000 goals and played the leading role in the years 1958, 1962 and 1970 during which Brazil received world titles.

Lionel Messi

This soccer player has exceptional skills in the field that leave fans with their mouths open and jaws dropping. Messi, an Argentinean player, is expected to become a Legend in the world of soccer after his retirement. Messi is among the leading scorers in the UEFA and Spanish Champions League. The number of awards he has received is huge. Just to mention a few, he has 4 FIFA Golden Balls, three champion leagues, six titles in the stars league, and two club world cups. His footwork in the field is magnificent, and even non-soccer fans know his name. At only 27, this Barcelona player could be considered among the best players in the world.
